Fireworks in July
Fireworks in July ~ RER
I walked to his beside
Watched and stood quietly by
I lit the candle
no reflection in his eyes
The vessel that transported him
Through far and distant lands
Was now too worn
To keep his soul from his creators hands
A million miles he'd traveled
Raised up a family
Wounded twice on the Burma road
Now he'd die in the company of me
No one knew him as a hero
No one knew of his sacrifice
The only sign that he fought the war
He hated fireworks in July
Music softly playing
A waltz from years ago
His soul danced off to the galaxies
Left this burden below
On clear dark nights I can see him
racking ponies across the sky
Lived a life to sing about
But it came his time to die
And by candle light
In the cool dark night
he reached the other shore
In dignity and peacefulness
He strode rode through heavens door
A million miles he'd traveled
Raised up a family
Wounded twice on the Burma road
Now he'd die in the company of me
No one knew him as a hero
No one knew of his sacrifice
The only sign that he fought the war
He hated fireworks in July
