The Genteel Loafer

The Genteel Loafer ~ RER

He was just a Genteel Loafer
Looking for some Low Rent Land
Shade trees in abundance
Nothing fancy nothing planned

A place to be but not be seen
A place to live and die
A place to be but not be seen
A place He didn't have to try

He'd wile away the hours
Too much folly about to care
His own enchanted world
Where everything was shared

The politics of living Gone
The taxed days through
A cog that jumped off the machine
He 'd spend his time in truth

Halcyon days
flittering here and there
Peaceful thoughts would bathe his soul
Living without a care

He'd dwell where no one would notice
He'd  be impossible to find
You'd only hear his laughter
On the wind at closing time

And When he came to town to see
To people he would smile
And shake his head in great disdain
For the never ending miles

Of death and self destruction
Of ideologies rotten hue
Of what mankind had become
A paradise for so few

He wouldn't  stay in town too long
Too much poison to perceive
He'd beat a path back to his home
With the sunset on the trees

And yes this life would pass on by
And yes his time would come
But not before he sang his song
Not before his bell had rung

To plead with people everywhere
To stop and pay some heed
To recognize there is enough for all
To take their cog and leave
