It's just out that back door
Where children still play and love rules the day
And good spirits on white wings soar
Far far away from the darkness
Far far away from the pain
A place that brings back memories
For a man who forgot whence he came
Once upon a time he was
So sure of the things he knew
Then life came along and his rights got all wrong
his essence beat black and blue
Self loathing and self pity
Carved his heart from his chest
He buried it where it wouldn't be found
At the time he thought it best
One day he up and hit the road
And dug up his broken heart
Packed it with a few belongings
Determined to make a new start
And though it tis late evening now
He's happy that he's tried
The children's laughter have warmed the heart
And he's placed it back inside
Don't know how long it can keep beating
It doesn't matter much anymore
Because he finally knows there is a heaven
And it's right out that back door
