Aint No Room to Roam

“Aint No Room to Roam”~ Rev

I lay awake in the stillness
eyes wide to the dark
silence filling the void
between the beats of my heart

Voices doing the wandering
through my crazy dream filled head
imagining a better life
or being someone else instead

mourning the loss of childhood
seeing through the declining days
watching those and the things that I love
go from phase to phase

shaken by the realities
comforted in the wine
pushing my loaded wagon up a hill
doing a dead mans time

shuffling in my step
gravity pulling at my soul
the weight it gets much heavier
and I just get more old

I am a brittle rock
upon which my foundation lay
the roots of my sanity clinging ever so precariously
to the waning hours in the day

and so the sun sets on the tree line
and the shadows consume the home
and I lay awake in the stillness
“Where there ain't no room to roam”
