Fencepost

‎"Fence Post" by RER

I'm just an ole fence post
Crooked bowed and hard
But I hold up my fair share
In the life that is our yard

Long ago I lost my shimmer
Years ago My paint it peeled
But through the winds and driving rain
In my job I do not yield

I stand to face the summer sun
And grin within the heat
A purpose in my single mind
There can be no defeat

I've held the wire these many years
Protected this domain
Seen the gravel turn to asphalt
Acts in progress name

Soon the line that I have kept
Will no longer be required
A dozers blade shall come a knocking
And tell me I'm retired
